Explore Data

UCSC’s IRAPS dashboards provide aggregated data to help faculty understand student experiences and outcomes, including:

  • Demographics of a class, major, or department
  • Retention, graduation, and time-to-degree
  • Course performance
  • Course-taking patterns over time
  • Movement between majors

Dashboards can be filtered by race/ethnicity, gender, first-generation status, and admit type, giving you insight into equity patterns in your course, major, or department.

The TLC offers consultations and workshops to help you use these tools effectively, along with resources to explore the data and take action on your own.

The TLC offers one-on-one consultations to help you explore equity data related to your teaching. You might come with a specific question—such as “Did student outcomes change after I tried a new approach?”—or simply want to see what the data reveal about your courses. Each consultation includes an individualized report with equity-focused analyses relevant to your interests, along with a discussion of possible actions to strengthen student learning and outcomes.

We also provide workshops tailored to departments or programs. These can range from general introductions to the data dashboards and how to use them, to customized analyses of data specific to your unit.

Use the buttons below to request an individual consultation or a workshop for your department. Our Data and Evaluation Specialist will follow up with you to learn more about your needs and schedule your consultation or workshop. You can also visit our pages on Consultations and Workshops to learn more.

Most dashboards are for internal UCSC use and require IRAPS approval. To request access, complete the internal dashboard access form and upload your FERPA training certificate. Please allow up to one week for approval.

The IRAPS student data page includes links to both internal and public dashboards, with internal dashboards marked by a lock icon.

The “Getting to Know Your Students” dashboard provides information about the students enrolled in your current or upcoming course, using IRAPS data. This dashboard is intended to facilitate a deeper understanding of the students enrolled in your course to help you design and deliver your course to better support all of your students. On this dashboard, you will see:

  • Aggregated student demographic information for your course
  • Information about how students, in aggregate, have performed in select prior UCSC courses
  • The most common courses students are taking along with your course

This dashboard only displays data for the current or upcoming quarter; it is updated up to two weeks prior to the start of the quarter to help with planning, but this window varies based on when the preceding quarter’s grades were due. The slide deck below provides the dates when it will be updated during the current academic year, as well as a general overview of the dashboard.

If you already have access to the IRAPS internal dashboards, you can access the Getting to Know Your Students dashboard using the button below. If not, please scroll up for information on how to request access to the internal dashboards.

To help you move from data to action, the TLC has compiled this resource with a list of impactful, evidence-based strategies that can help address equity gaps and improve student learning. You can also browse our Resource Library for more resources to support your teaching.
