Welcoming New Faculty to Teaching at UCSC
The New Faculty Teaching Academy supports Senate faculty across all divisions as they begin their teaching careers at UC Santa Cruz. Whether participants are new to college-level teaching or experienced educators, the academy introduces new faculty to evidence-based teaching practices that foster equitable learning outcomes, as well as ongoing resources for effective teaching.
Held each September, the Teaching Academy is led by the TLC and forms part of the broader New Faculty Academy, a collaboration with the Academic Senate. Together, these programs provide a foundation for the first year at UCSC, including:
- Teaching Academy: A two-day introduction to our students, our teaching context, and foundational principles of inclusive and effective pedagogy
- New Faculty Welcome Day: An introduction to UCSC structures and an opportunity to build community with fellow faculty
- Professional Development: A series of workshops on faculty governance, research, and career development throughout the year
