Teaching Orientation for Lecturers

About the Teaching Orientation for Lecturers

The Teaching Orientation for Lecturers is a one-day introduction to teaching at UCSC.

Held before the start of the Fall Quarter, this program provides Lecturers and Visiting Assistant Professors with institutional support to orient them to UCSC’s students, teaching culture, and teaching-related support resources.

All recently new and incoming Lecturers and VAPs (those who started in the previous academic year or later) are invited.

The Teaching Orientation for Lecturers seeks to prepare Lecturers and VAPs with the information most critical to their instructional roles. Topics include equity-minded teaching, student support resources, strategies for working with teaching teams, teaching technology (AIS, classroom technology infrastructure, etc.), and several topical breakout sessions in areas such as teaching large lecture courses and leveraging UCSC’s EdTech tools.

The TLC is excited to provide this opportunity to build skills, knowledge, and community. Lecturers and VAPs who complete the program are eligible for TLC-sponsored grants to support teaching development.
