Eli Sharf is a 4th year Ph.D. student in the linguistics department studying semantics and pragmatics, or how meaning is encoded in grammars of languages, and communicated between speakers. He has been a T.A. for 2.5 years in the department, and is interested in making linguistics education accessible to students from a variety of backgrounds. He is currently working with two department faculty to improve the Semantics 1 class (Ling 53) developing materials that are accessible and engaging, including computer-based tools that visualize the abstract systems semanticists use when studying meaning in language.
