Nic Brummell

CITL Faculty Associate (2022-23); Faculty Steering Committee Member; CITL Faculty Fellow (2021-22); Professor, Applied Mathematics

Nic Brummell is a Professor in the Applied Mathematics department who studies fundamental fluid dynamics and magnetohydrodynamics (MHD; the fluid dynamics in conducting fluids with magnetic fields) as applied to the context of astrophysics and geophysics. Since Nic’s interests are in highly nonlinear phenomena (turbulence), he has to use supercomputers to examine the mathematical models in question, and therefore has a strong interest in High Performance Computing (HPC). Nic worked with the Senate Committee on Teaching in conjunction with CITL for many years and has a long standing concern about equity in education.
