Equity-Minded
Mentoring
for Postdocs

About the Program

Are you a UCSC postdoc who is interested in developing equitable mentorship skills to build inclusive, supportive research and learning environments?

If so, join the TLC and like-minded colleagues for a series of five interactive workshops on equity-minded mentorship to develop actionable strategies and a deeper knowledge of the recent research on mentoring in academia.

We will explore and practice evidence-based approaches that have been shown to support underrepresented students in research settings, particularly those from racially minoritized groups, including:

  • Establishing clear expectations for the mentoring relationship;
  • Communicating effectively and with attention to how different life experiences, identities, and positions of power shape participation in and experiences in STEM and Social Sciences fields;
  • Promoting students’ sense of belonging and research identities.

In between our meetings, you will have the opportunity to engage with brief readings and draft your own mentoring philosophy.

At the end of the program, you will receive a certificate of completion, issued by the TLC, to indicate your demonstrated commitment to equitable mentorship practices in STEM.

How to Participate

The next offering of Equity-Minded Mentoring is scheduled for Winter 2025, with registration to open in Fall 2024.
