About the Ungrading Learning Community
Are you an educator interested in reducing student anxieties about grades and re-focusing on the process of learning? Are you committed to educational equity and want to explore assessment design strategies that are more values-aligned? Do you find that traditional grading approaches aren’t working for you or your students and you want to try something different? If so, we welcome you to join the TLC for our Ungrading Learning Community in Winter Quarter 2025.
Learning community participants commit to attending three (3) interactive sessions on the following Wednesdays from 2:30 to 4:00 PM: January 22, February 12, and March 5, which fall in Weeks 3, 6, and 9. Due to high interest in the learning community, we will meet on Zoom.
Together, we’ll engage with relevant readings and resources; share practical strategies and examples; workshop each other’s ideas; reflect on how alternative grading raises critical questions about power, positionality, and the function of grades; build community; and more.
This learning community is open to any educator in any discipline, including graduate students, lecturers, Senate faculty, and postdocs, ranging from the ungrading-curious to those who have years of experience using ungrading strategies.
To participate, please complete and submit the Ungrading Learning Community interest form by Friday, December 13.
If you have questions, feel free to reach out to tlc@ucsc.edu.
